Childbirth Education Registration
OB Classes

  • Kettering Childbirth Education Classes are transitioning to online classes and chats.
  • All campus classes and tours are suspended at this time.
  • Already registered clients will receive email communication regarding their online classes.
  • You are welcome to reschedule your classes to a later time period if your due date allows.
  • Please use the “Contact Us” link in the top, right corner of the OB Classes page so that we can help you reschedule your classes and answer any additional questions you may have.

Current visitation Policy (3/27/20):
Maternity patients may have visitors?over the age of 18 with the following restrictions:

Labor/Delivery and Postpartum 

  • One visitor per admission stay (not per day) 
    • Exception: Minor patients (under the age of 18 years old) may have 2 visitors limited to only parents/guardians OR one parent/guardian and father of baby 

NICU/SCN 

  • 2 approved visitors for the entire stay 
  • Only 1 approved visitor at a time  

Antepartum Greater than 7-day Length of Stay  

  • 2 approved visitors during the stay 
  • Only 1 approved visitor per day (both visitors cannot visit on the same day)  

Please note: All visitors must enter through the hospital screening process.

Individual Class Descriptions



This three hour class focuses on basic care of the newborn. Topics include: bath demonstration, feeding and diapering tips, normal newborn characteristics, and well baby/sick baby information.

A certified lactation consultant conducts this one time 2-1/2 hour class. Discussion includes prenatal preparation, prevention and/or relief of common problems, how to successfully breastfeed while returning to work.

Join us as we help you prepare for childbirth by covering the following topics: physical and emotional changes during pregnancy, nutrition, signs and symptoms of labor, stages of labor, breathing and relaxation techniques, medical interventions/medications and what to expect after delivery. A tour of the maternity area is included with this class. A variety of formats are available to meet your scheduling needs: one-day express class, 2-day weekend class, or weekly series.

This class focuses on current maternity practice and updates grandparents-to-be on changes in infant care and safety guidelines. An optional tour of the maternity unit will be available at 8 p.m.

This one time, three hour class is taught by CPR certified registered nurses. Basic CPR skills and choking prevention are taught. No certification is given. Class space is limited to ensure a low instructor/student ratio for a great learning experience.

This two hour class builds on information learned in our Childbirth Preparation class. Additional relaxation and coping methods are practiced.

This is on online Baby Care class due to COVID 19 restrictions. The class will cover the following topics: newborn traits, behaviors and cues, crying and comforting, feeding, diapering, bathing and dressing your newborn, and health and safety topics.

This is an online only Breastfeeding class for use during the COVID 19 restrictions. The following topics are covered in this class: the importance of breastfeeding, milk production, getting the best start, skin to skin contact, breastfeeding positioning, latching on, frequency, feeding cues and patterns, signs of getting enough milk, breast fullness and nipple care, engorgement and mastitis, caring for yourself, partner support, returning to work and storing breastmilk

This is an online only Childbirth Preparation Class for use during the COVID 19 restrictions. Topics covered in this class include: pregnancy, labor, comfort techniques, medical procedures, cesarean birth, newborns and postpartum

Topics covered in this class include: car safety, safe baby care, safe sleep, pets and sibling safety, sitter safety, safe baby equipment, childproofing, safe toys, home safety, choking, suffocation and strangulation hazards, falls, water safety, burn hazards, household poisons, emergency preparedness, gun and fire safety, infant CPR and first aid

This 2 hour class is for those expecting twins (or more). Join us early in your pregnancy for information regarding nutrition, pre-term labor, delivery options, time and stress management, equipment must-haves and sibling tips.

This one time two hour class is designed for children 2 ½ to 10 years old to help prepare them to welcome the new baby into the family. Activities include: a video on the role of the big brother/sister, diapering and feeding dolls, making a gift for the new baby and a tour with parents of the maternity department.

If there is Severe Weather, your childbirth class may be cancelled. If you have a class scheduled at any of the Kettering Health Network sites and the weather is questionable, please refer to our website at: www.Ketteringhealth.org/maternity for updated information. We will make every effort to make weather-related decisions two hours prior to class time. If weather conditions in your area are too hazardous for you to travel, please call the KHN Childbirth Education Office at 937-395-8600 to reschedule.
