Clinical Order Set Specialist
(Inpatient Health Information Technologies)

The Philosophy "Treat the patient, not the machine" was ingrained from my earliest healthcare experience as a paramedic – and it was sound advice. In the rapid advancement of technology, we now have machines capable of treating patients and clinicians who have begun to rely too heavily on the EHR for their clinical judgment. While I enthusiastically support the use of technology as a tool to reduce cognitive burden, we must never lose sight of the value of the clinician at the bedside, their intuition and critical thinking skills as they interact directly with the patient. Our first (and highest) calling is still to treat the patient, not the machine. I am involved in Clinical Informatics, Process Improvement, Workflow Analysis, Project Management, Data Analytics, and Innovative Strategies for EHRs. I have a teenaged son who enjoys cooking, Big Band music, maps, American History, and all things Marvel or Sci-Fi. He competes in Junior Varsity Speech and Debate. Together, we enjoy camping, canoeing, historical landmarks, tennis, and archery. I am actively involved in my church – a Hebrew Roots community. Other hobbies include gardening, painting, home DIY projects, and geocaching.
