Research
Kettering Medical Center (KMC) has developed a GME Research Committee with faculty representation from all the Internal Medicine sub-specialties, the Director of Innovation Grants and Research Center, all the Program Directors and Associate Program Directors for each KMC residency/fellowship program, the Research Director for KMC, Research Director for Kettering Health Network (KHN), as well as representatives from the Medical Library and IRB. The committee meets regularly. The committee has made a lot of progress in creating a robust research environment.
The group tracks all faculty and resident/fellow scholarly activity, including publications, book chapters, oral presentations, posters and other scholarly activity. The committee identified additional faculty who are interested in both mentoring the residents/fellows and helping them with their projects. The committee created several on-line resources available to residents/fellows 24/7 through the Medical Education intranet system, including a full Research Manual, which has a Quick-start Research Navigator, and very detailed instruction on the basics and process of doing research. The committee has also involved other key research resources within the Network to assist in the further development of research at KMC including the Innovation, Research & Grants Center, the KHN Institutional Review Board, and the Medical Library.
The various websites (IRG Center and IRB) have links in the Medical Education home page on the intranet, which provides "one-stop shopping" for the residents/fellows. Our residents/fellows have many publications and presentations at national/regional meetings.
