Medical Student Rotations

Medical students are highly valued members of the health care team at Soin Family Medicine. We strive to build a culture of educational and academic inquiry and encourage medical student members as part of our teaching services.

  • ALL ROTATING MEDICAL STUDENTS AT KETTERING HEALTH WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE THE COVID-19 VACCINE SERIES COMPLETED BY DECEMBER 1, 2021.
  • MEDICAL OR RELIGIOUS EXEMPTIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY OCTOBER 15, 2021.
  • STUDENTS WILL BE ASKED TO PROVIDE PROOF OF VACCINE STATUS UPON APPROVAL OF THEIR APPLICATION.

Rotations Available:

Experience appropriate for: MS3 or MS4
Rotator Experiences available: 1 at any given time (either MS3 or 4)

A medical student will rotate with Attending Faculty and Resident Physicians of Soin Family Medicine in the ambulatory care site. The medical student will be able to shadow providers seeing patients, briefly interview patients and provide a verbal presentation with recommendations for assessment and plan and participate in daily teaching rounds. The experience will be ambulatory care of all ages, infant to geriatrics and include experiences in maternity, sports medicine, and ambulatory procedural care. Additional experiences in inpatient adult medicine, newborn inpatient medicine, prenatal care and sports medicine may be available and requested at time of the rotation.

Experience appropriate for: MS3, MS4, PGYl, PGY2, PGY3
Rotator Experiences available: 1 at any given time

A medical student or resident rotation will be primarily located at Kettering Sports Medicine. The learner will work with family physicians, orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists in a state of the art dedicated sports medicine facility. The learner will have the opportunity to participate in procedures, care plans, on site stress testing as well as events with providers as a team physician. Wednesday afternoons the learner will participate in the Soin Family Medicine didactic session at the Soin Family Medicine Residency Office.

Experience appropriate for: MS3, MS4 sub- intern
Rotator Experiences available: 2 at any given time

A third year medical student or 4th year sub internship rotation is available with the Soin Family Medicine inpatient team. The experience will be at Soin Medical Center and assisting in the care of hospitalized adult patients on the medical or intensive care units. The third year student will typically care for 1-3 patients on service and the sub intern will typically care for 2-4 patients as part of the care team. Experience will include admissions, daily rounding, in hospital procedures, daily team rounds, and daily teaching rounds with the residency team. Wednesday afternoons the learner will participate in the Soin Family Medicine didactic session at the Soin Family Medicine Residency Office.
