Mission:
The Kettering Health Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program's mission is to produce competent, compassionate, well-rounded, practice-ready diagnostic radiologists. We train our residents with an emphasis on providing high-quality care in a community-based setting. In doing so, the program fosters the continuation of quality care of patients throughout the Kettering Health Network, Dayton, as well as the greater Miami Valley region. KNRI's multi-subspecialty fellowship-trained staff instruct residents with the goal of achieving proficiency and excellence in diagnostic and therapeutic imaging services, education, and research. Over the course of their training, each resident develops competency and efficiency in the use of technical diagnostic equipment under the supervision of qualified faculty and staff. The program strives to be a leader amongst Diagnostic Radiology residency programs in our region by continuously developing an up-to-date curriculum, providing outstanding academic mentorship, and fostering Quality Improvement strategies.

Program Overview

2026-2027 Academic Year - 2 (PGY2), 2 (PGY3), 2 (PGY4), 2 (PGY5)- Total of 8 Residents

The KHN Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program is a 4-year advanced program which takes two residents per year into the program. Applicants interested in our program are encouraged to consider doing their Transitional Year at Kettering or Soin Medical Centers. (Kettering TY, Soin TY)

Program Aims

  1. Produce diagnostic radiologists who are highly qualified, competent, compassionate, well-rounded, and ready for a career in a community-based practice setting.

  2. Continue to expand our residency program to support the local and regional demand for radiologists in the Kettering Health Network as well as throughout Southwest Ohio to care for an increasing patient population.

  3. Prepare residents to be competitive applicants for fellowships and have the opportunity to pursue a subspecialty interest of their choice.

  4. Train physicians who are dedicated to Quality Improvement and are aware of how to conduct research in a community-based setting.

  5. Continue to train and retain the top-notch graduates of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program to meet the Kettering Health Network's overall mission of improving the quality of care throughout the Dayton area and the state of Ohio.

Educational Opportunities

Radiology residents train at several locations throughout Kettering Health, which include:
- Kettering Health Main Campus
- Kettering Health Dayton
- Kettering Health Miamisburg
- Kettering Health Washington Township
- Dayton Children's Hospital
Residents are required to attend the AIRP course virtually in their PGY 4/ R3 Year.

Residents are also given the opportunity to present research at National Conferences.

Residents and Alumni

Nearly all of our graduates have chosen to undertake various fellowships in highly competitive subspecialty fields at academic institutions across the country including UCSF, USC, Henry Ford Hospital, Cincinnati Children's Hospital, Johns Hopkins, the Ohio State University, Case Western, the Mayo Clinic, and the University of Cincinnati.

How To Apply

The program welcomes applications from DO and MD candidates. We are looking for residents who are self-starters and prepared for a high case load volume. We prefer applicants who have passed USMLE and COMLEX on first attempt, but do evaluate each applicant on an individual basis.
